Nitecore Explorer EA1 Flashlight - CREE XP-G R5 LED - 180 Lumens - Uses 1 x AA
Explorers for the Night
The compact and versatile Explorer flashlights are packed full of the features and power that have made Nitecore one of the world's most trusted names in LED lighting. The portable and reliable EA1 is powered by a single AA battery, and features the distinctive dual-switch interface at the head of the light. A 180 lumen high mode can be accessed with the mode switch that cycles through four separate outputs. The activation switch, located directly below the mode selector, turns the light on to its most recently used setting, allowing for convenient access to your desired mode.
Loads of Features
Along with its dual side-switches and big-boy outputs, the EA1 also features a power indicator, which flashes when the battery voltage is too low. An ultra-clear glass lens protects the powerful LED from damage, while ultra-strong anodized aluminum protects from scratches and corrosion. A detachable pocket clip allows you to easily secure the EA1 to your belt, pocket, or clothing so you can carry it confidently wherever life takes you. Precision engineered O-ring seals give this light an IPX-8 water resistance rating, allowing for total submersion in up to two meters of water. The EA1 is a handy and practical piece of gear that's more powerful than flashlights many times its size. Be sure to take a look at the entire Explorer Series of flashlights to see the variety of sizes and configurations available.Features and Specifications:

The Perfect EDC Light
August 27, 2014
I was in the market for an EDC light to keep with me all the time. I was using (and still do) a Streamlight Nano light which is really perfect for those times when you only need good light in close quarters. But I was lacking enough light to throw out a ways to see things as far out as 30 to 40 yards in dark environs. One day I happened to see a video posted on YouTube by a guy that goes by the name of Sootch00. He is a gear reviewer of all kinds of stuff and he did a video review of this light and I was impressed. I watched it again. Still impressed. So, out I go to find this light. So much for the background, let me get to the light. This is THE PERFECT EDC LIGHT. It is small, well constructed, light weight, bright and stingy on batteries. It's UI is pretty straight forward and logical. The two fold OFF mode keeps it from being turned on instantly, you must press and hold the rear button for about two seconds then the light will activate in the low mode. You can then cycle the light through the various modes. If you want details on all the features, you can easily find reviews on the web. As far as failures, I have experienced none, zero. It has performed perfectly for over a year, on a daily basis. The only negative in my 12 month experience with this light is that the holster is not of great quality. I wore the holster with the light for over 4 months until the fabric started to wear thin to the point I was afraid it was going to fail and I would lose the light. The one thing, in my humble opinion, that could be done to make this light a better product is to make the holster of better material. My message, to you reading this, is that this light is worthy of your consideration for an EDC light. I think you will like what you see.
Great features but POOR QC

See pros and cons. Pretty much sums it up. Bought the light for the really nice features, but these do not seem to be durable devices. Another reviewer got his wet and had it fail. Mine died for no reason whatsoever. The RMA process, should you need it from Nitecore, is poop. Do yourself a favor, if you buy Chinese, make sure it's a company with a north american office and a good customer service track record. I am out 50$ and counting...
Pros:Red LED functions are useful Nice UI Very Bright Very efficient Nice pocket clip and case design
Cons:Mine burned out in a month. Nitecore CS requires shipment to China on your dime. Pangs of buyers remorse
A must have light

First, I like the multiple outputs of this light. At the minimum, I can get just enough light to navigate out of civil situations, such as exiting an apartment if the lights go out. It also has enough output at max to do work and to guide people out of a large building in a blackout. The red LED puts out just enough light to navigate in familiar surroundings. Also, the flashing modes are good attention getters. In self-defense, the strobe does a pretty good job at blinding a thug, while the other modes can summon police. It also does well in party modes. I like that I can use rechargeable batteries in this thing. That way, I can use the light all the time in case of emergency--such as when we get an energy crisis because of the Middle East war, resulting in frequent rolling blackouts. It also makes a good light in rural settings, where you need to find your way back home after dark or in the event of emergency repairs (I would, however, recommend a headlamp for prolonged working or reading). There is one annoyance with these lights. At times, the lower button will freeze. The LED stops blinking, and pressing the lower button does nothing. The upper button still works, and you can still activate the strobe. Pulling off the lower cap for a few seconds will reset it in most cases. The buttons may also be difficult to activate if your hands are freezing cold; however, I have found accidental activation is possible (not an issue in civil situations if you are using rechargeable batteries, but could be a problem if you are in backcountry with primary batteries). Given the instability in the Middle East similar to the early fall of 1973, I advise everyone to get at least one of these things and carry it with you at all times. You never know when you will be in a large box store and the lights will go out, and there is no fuel for the generator. Those carrying these lights will be able to exit safely, while those without will stumble. Bonus: As these lights are not widely available at major department stores, you cannot be accused of stealing them from their stock.

As an outdoor light it has great throw for a single aa, its low is bright enough to use for most camping task. The clip is bi directional. red blinking light makes it easy to find. Only neg about this light is the switch may be tuff to activate with gloves.
