Improvement on the Old Tactikka XP
August 9, 2014
I have been a stalwart user of the Petzl Tactikka XP for many years in the field. The new Tactikka RGB would appear to be the replacement for the XP, it does not rely on flip across filters and does all the colour changing via a simple (once mastered) user interface.
Excellent run times, excellent beam for close work (maps etc). Battery compartment now much easier to access. No need to carry spare lenses like the Old XP. The tactile feel of the Tactikka RGB does not appear to be as robust as the previous XP, but that may just be the new type of plastics being used (possibly just as strong but does not feel as strong).
Does not have an O-ring sealing the battery compartment like the XP, but I do not intend on taking it swimming. We will see how it goes with the test of time but so far it appears to be quite an improvement over the old Tactikka XP.
Pros:Simple user interface once mastered
No more filters to slide across
Easy battery access
Excellent run times
Good practical beam for night navigation work.
Cons:Does not appear to have O-ring on battery compartment (perhaps not needed?)
Plastic appears to be more brittle than previous XP model but may just be appearance.
Hard to find any Cons.
