Great Technology, Great Cell, Great Value - Don't Discharge Deeply
The Efest IMR 16340 700mAH cell sold by Battery Junction is a reviewer-postitive cell that gives great performance at a very good price. While today the cell jargon like IMR, ICR, and INR may not always be perfectly accurate in describing the cell chemistry, the Efest IMR 16340 characteristics support its IMR heritage - high discharge current capability, better stability of its chemistry (so that protection circuitry cost, size, and reliability can be side-stepped), and less cost to the user. For details about Lithium chemistries google "BatteryUniversity". Trade off for the increased output discharge and stability is poorer energy density and cycle life, but when IMR cells are built to the same form factor as ICR the energy density isn't a limitation, and when used at more or less ordinary discharge rates (1C to 2C) to limit heating and depth of discharge is controlled, cycle life improves. The Efest cells I've bought fit and function just fine in my RCR123A/16340 capable lights, activating Turbo modes quite well - perhaps even better than the flashlight maker's name branded ICR protected 16340 cells, but I haven't the measurement gear to test. Some have reported IMR cells to give more powerful lights a real boost, as would be expected for IMR's. In this sense the IMR 16340 is a good choice for single cell flashlights, especially if those lights have low voltage shutoff to protect the cell from too deep of a discharge, which can shorten cycle life. Of course only time will reveal the ongoing performance of this cell in terms of shelf life, capacity, service life, and cycle life. Given, however, the level of technology and manufacturing expertise needed to process and process control the manufacture of such cells, I am cautiously optimistic on claims. To hedge that bet, however, I have bought light maker name branded cells as well, to guarantee fit and function, and for more optimism on shelf life, capacity, service life, and cycle life claims for their cells, in hopes the cells truly pay for themselves many times over. One issue I've found is that my Nitecore i2 new model charger "alarmed" upon attempt to charge one of two of these Efest IMR 16340's, but my Olight UC Universal Magnetic charger had no problem. Nitecore description says, "optimized for IMR". But the same charger doesn't like ICR 14500's of several brands either. Point being, you may have problems charging certain cells with certain chargers, but neither may be "bad"... sigh. Best to have a couple different brand chargers, I guess. The world of Lithium batteries and powerful lights and other high drain gear demand care and attention to cell technology, especially when choosing to "try something different". So Battery Junction's warning disclaimer is well placed when it comes to IMR cells without protection circuitry. In that sense, I'd not recommend these cells for use in devices without low cell voltage cut off or discussion about cell protection circuitry and chemistries.

I am kind of new to IMR cells so did a lot of research before carefully selecting the red Efest cells. Boy do these things pack a punch! I have since ordered a few more as well as red Efest 18350's. All of them seem to be higher capacity than what is printed on the label. They easily outlast my usual ICR cells. Put one of these in my new SRT3 which with a CR123 or usual 16340 and even 14500 cell the performance was kind of depressing. My many years old PD32 is twice as bright. Enter the red Efest. All the sudden the SRT3 is not only brighter but for some reason the strobe and blue/red cop strobe flash faster to boot. I am no battery expert but thus far these are the best cells of this size I have ever used.

Better Chemistry, Higher Drain, Lower Cost
The Efest IMR 16340 provides a chemistry that is more stable while providing higher output drain yet at lower cost. How can one not be happy about this? Well, the proof will be in the cycle life and continued good capacity in performance in repeated service. Time will tell.

Great Performance and Value
It seems Efest under-rates their cells' mah values. All of my Efest cells check out to be 100-200mah more than they are rated at. These are great batteries for a 16340 powered light.
