Good value

Bought two of these for different locations. They work well, but be aware that you must charge AA or AAA cells in pairs. So you can charge two or four AA's, or two AA's and two AAA's. But you can't charge one at a time. Not a big deal if you have lots of batteries.

Only has 4 channels
July 15, 2018
I've had this for years... maybe 10 years? It's definitely reliable. It accepts up to 8 cells, but they are divided into paired bays. Thus, there are only 4 channels. The cool thing is that each bay can accept either one cell (in the middle of the bay) or two cells (side-by-side). So you can charge four cells independently, which is the only safe way to go. If you to try to charge more than four cells, pairs of them get paired together and charge as a pair. If the cells start out at different voltages or are at different points in their lifespan, I'm not sure what happens. Probably, one cell gets overcharged while the other gets undercharged.

Also, I'm not sure why, but older cells do get VERY hot in this charger. It will keep trying to charge them to full forever if you let it, but it will never succeed. I supposed that more advanced chargers have a cut-off timer for this reason.
