Adjustable Spotlight or Floodlight

The most remarkable feature of the Fenix FD41 is its ability to seamlessly switch between spot and flood modes. This is achieved via a 360 degree rotating right and narrows or widens the focus, providing spotlight or floodlight respectively. The wide angled floodlight creates a wide beam angle up to 81 degrees, while the spotlight sends the powerful beam up to 340 meters in dark conditions. Whether you need a light for a large area or long distance spotting, the FD41 has the setting you need!

It's a nice light,the usual Fenix quality and features.I'm not impressed with the focus feature,the focus ring is really stiff and I think the spot should be more narrow.

Increases weapon light flexibility

I replaced a Fenix TK15 UE with a Fenix FD 41. The performance specifications are almost the same for both models. BUT the FD41 has the added flexibility of a focusable beam, which can illuminate a very wide area. This is a decided advantage in a tactical situation. And yet I can adjust the FD 41's focus to a tight spot for long-range throw, which despite the published specifications, appears visually to be about 10% less than the TK 15 UE. In my opinion, this is well worth the trade-off, as the throw specs for both lights are more than 300 meters. The bezel diameter of the FD 41 is about 0.3 inches wider and the barrel is about 0.1 inches longer, so please double-check the specifications to assure proper fit when mounting the light. For handheld use, these differences are probably irrelevant.

Pros

Focusable beam provides added flexibility in different or changing tactical situations--a BIG plus for the $15.00 price difference. I like the 360 degree focusing mechanism, which simply causes the lens to move continuously in and out as you rotate the the focus ring--it does not unscrew the bezel and thereby accidentally deactivate the light.

Cons

Compared to the TK 15 UE, the FD 41 is slightly larger in bezel diameter and overall length. Also, it visually appears to have about 10% less throw than the TK 15 UE.
