I purchased this HL for a Grand Canyon backpacking trip that I took in October. I purchased it because of the AA design as I wanted to standardize all of my gadgets to this battery. I used Engergizer lithiums in it and it functioned flawlessly, and was among the brightest headlamps in the canyon. Six nights in the canyon and the original batteries are still in it, so battery life is very good. The red LED function worked well to preserve not only my night vision but of those around me as well. Just trying to be polite...a very good lamp.
