Fenix TK75 Darkness Terminator Rechargeable LED Flashlight

"Hasta La Vista, Darkness!"

Darkness beware, the Fenix TK75 Rechargeable LED Flashlight 2018 Edition has arrived and it is ready to terminate you! This impressive machine truly seems like it's been sent from the future, delivering immense power while simultaneously sporting unrivaled durability. Equipped with 4 powerful CREE XHP35 HI LEDs, the TK75 is able to produce up to 5100 Lumens of sizzling brightness, completely eradicating any darkness within 850 meters of its powerful beam. The search light also comes with a blinding Strobe function for signaling as well as an efficient S.O.S. Mode for emergency situations, so you're prepared for just about anything! The search light features a simple dual stainless steel switch interface, with one switch for its constant outputs and the other for its tactical outputs, making operation quick and easy.

Long-Lasting and Rechargeable

The Darkness Terminator runs on four rechargeable 18650 batteries (sold separately), which combine to provide the light with the substantial runtime required for search and rescue and other serious applications. For optimal performance, Fenix recommends using ARB-L18 Series 18650s, which are specially designed for use in Fenix flashlights. When fully charged, the TK75 can run on its max output for over two hours and can provide up to 95 hours of illumination in Low Mode. Combine its intense output with that stellar runtime and you have one of the most effective search lights on the market today! The TK75 features a specialized battery holder that not only houses its batteries but recharges them as well, thanks to the convenient micro-USB charging port located on its side! No need for a separate battery charger; all you need is one of the most commonly used charging cables! In emergency situations, the TK75 is able to run on just two 18650s or even four CR123A cells, a versatility that may be crucial during long-term operation.

The Fenix TK75 search light is also compatible with the Extended Runtime Kit (sold separately), which will double the flashlight's already impressive endurance. This means if you are using your light in High I mode, the battery extender kit will increase the runtime from three to six hours! This is especially useful when participating in search-and-rescue missions, where timelines are unknown and when every minute counts!

Performance not totally accurate

Battery Junctions web page description of the Fenix TK75 2018 edition states in part, when fully charged, the TK75 can run on its Max output for over two hours...... Based on that statement, it means the light can maintain 5100 lumens for the two hours and 15 minutes it is rated for.
The instructions supplied with the light by Fenix states, the light will automatically downshift the output to 2500 lumens; when the temperature is lower than 65C, after 3 minutes working on turbo...
Using 4 3500 Mah orbtronic 18650 batteries, I turned the light on full bright while watching a movie so I could monitor the light. After 4 minutes on turbo, the light did downshift to a lower setting but still reasonable bright. It stayed on that level for 1 hour and 55 minutes. Then it down shifted again to a lower brightness level. 5 mins later, it down shifted again to a lower brightness setting. I would estimate half power at this point. At two hours and ten minutes, it was about exhausted. The light was so hot in my bare hand, I set it down but was not burned.
If your buying this light thinking you will have 5100 lumens for two hours and 15 minutes, hang on to that dream. The light does have good endurance but not at the rates brightness level of 5100 lumens. It has a good throw and acceptable spill for a fairly compact unit. I feel Battery Junction needs to be more up front with there descriptions of the lights and performance levels. No where in Battery Junctions description do they talk about this light down shifting after 3 minutes in turbo mode to a lower brightness level. That is very misleading and, a major factor in my buying this light. I will keep it as I like the endurance even at a reduced power level and have purchased additional battery holders to change batteries more quickly in the field. All in all a fairly good light, just advertise the full truth about it's performance abilities.

Worth The Cost

I've been using this light for about 6 months now and the only complaint I have is about the weight. I use it with the Fenix Extended Runtime Kit which makes it a hand full. That said, the combination of runtime, light output and throw are very impressive and has done everything I've asked of it.
while charging the standard cassette of batteries is straight forward you will either need a separate 4 bay charger for the batteries in the extended runtime kit to keep the overall charge time to a expectable period.

You can swap batteries between the 2 cassettes but the charge time is excessive.

Search & Rescue primary

I have many flashlights in all shapes and sizes for different applications.

This light, Fenix TK75 2018 version, is now my primary light for search and rescue (SAR). When I'm called at night this light has ample power and ability to use a portable battery bank to recharge in the field is a fantastic feature.

I carry several 26650 lights that are great, but the output, runtime and blend of throw and lumens is really ideal in mountain rural wooded terrain.

I also carry a much larger dedicated thrower that requires a special harness, but I find this light more useful and applicable during search.

Pricey, but worth it for a truly impressive light for the serious outdoorsmen.

ProsLumens Candela max Throw Flood Durability Charging 18650s in field via USB
ConsWeight - not for minimalists, but lightweight for a dedicated search light Size - not an Every Day Carry Cost - both lights and batteries Shoulder harness - not really neeed, but should be improved if outfitted as such

This thing is everything you want in a light. If you have an older TK75 you will certainly appreciate the additional power and power levels of this one.
ProsMore power levels than previous models An actual battery indicator light New chargeable battery insert cradle Uses same extra battery insert as previous models for extension kits

Brighter than the Sun

Very bright, almost illegally bright! I married it up with four 3500ma Olight batteries. I love this light. I own the 2012 version, this is twice as bright as that model.
Canâ‚"t wait for Fenix to come out with 8000 lumuns someday. At that light output, the beam would look tinted green. For now, this model, 2018, will be my â‚“go toâ‚ security and emergecy light.
ProsBright as the Sun Great Quality Could be used in a self defense situation. The Strobe Is blinding and you have to turn away from the light. Heat sinks seems to do the job with max current draw at Turbo mode.
ConsNot an EDC, but could use the strap to carry it under a jacket Expensive to own with four 3500ma batteries I wish ECO mode was more like 15 to 20 Lumens, instead of 50 Lumens. Heavy fully loaded.
