LRI Freedom Micro Covert - Infrared Beam

True Night Vision

The LRI Freedom Micro Covert is a powerful LED keylight that emits a non-visible beam of infrared light. These key lights are ideal for use with night vision goggles & scopes, or with other equipment sensitive to infrared light. Many surveillance systems are also sensitive to infrared light. The increased infrared illumination provided by your infrared Photon light will allow you to see objects at a greater distance than when using your equipment's built-in infrared light. Keep in mind, not all night vision equipment is the same, so your results may vary. Infrared Photon Key lights work well with nearly all night vision goggles, monoculars, and scopes, however, we have had mixed results with some lower end digital cameras and video cameras. Made proudly in the USA from durable plastic and quality construction, these lights are virtually indestructible, waterproof and come with a lifetime warranty. Want your key light to be a miniature hands-free light? Order a LRI Photon Accessory Kit for the compatible Hat Clip.

Simple Interface, Smart Circuitry

The Smart Freedom Circuit has control over every function with just one body switch. This one button controls: instant On/Off, brightness modes, demo mode, 3 strobe beacons, automatic SOS, signal (morse code) mode, and the 3 minute timer mode. The demo mode is to show the different modes quickly for new users and then automatically turns itself off to save power.

    "Looks" Good
    December 31, 2016
Of course, the lack of any visible emissions make it difficult to know if an infrared source is even working. Fortunately I have a Kodak Infrared Phosphor Detector laminated card dating from the mid-80's that was intended to detect infrared laser beam incidence, so I can practice with the Freedom microlight push switch to insure operating the microlight properly. Still, for "serious" use, perhaps a light with a twist switch or click button actuator, maybe even with a small red LED "on" indicator, would be preferred. Feedback from on-line reviewers has been good, claiming that this microlight provides adequate infrared illumination.
The Freedom series design and build quality gives confidence in this microlight. LRI includes a necklace and a Velcro finger ring holder mount for the microlight, making it quick to hand and use.
ProsGreat design and build quality of the LRI Freedom microlight Good infrared output effectiveness as based on on-line reviewer feedback Included necklace and Velcro finger ring holders allow quick access to the light The Freedom microlight platform affords an economical solution for an infrared illuminator
ConsLack of any visible emissions mean that the operator needs to be confident in the operation of the microlight if not also the operator of the infrared night vision gear.

    Compact IR Source
    December 22, 2016
While it's pretty easy to evaluate the mechanical aspect of the famous LRI Freedom Microlight and its "Covert Nose", and its lanyard and Velcro finger-ring mount [these are very, very good], the performance of an IR source isn't quite as easy. Even a near UV light or microlight gives an indication of operation and relative brightness in the visible spectrum, but an IR light? How do you know it's even working apart from specialized gear with which it is intended to be used? Fortunately I have a laminated Kodak IR Phosphor detection card dating back to the 80's, intended to be used with IR Lasers... so I know this little light works and is providing IR output. Whether it is enough to meet needs will need to wait until later.
ProsBuilt on the LRI Freedom Microlight platform Lanyard and Velcro Finger-Ring Mount provided Long lasting operation with a single CR2032 cell
