Heavy Duty, Versatile Double Sheath
November 13, 2019
Maxpedition products are built tough... Military Grade. This double sheath is no exception. The design is basically two of the single sheath bodies mounted to one back plate. The assembly can be worn so that the sheaths are vertical or horizontal on the belt. (In this double sheath model, vertical is most reasonable.)
I have used the Maxpedition single sheaths for making up folding knife kits for backpacking, trekking, and hiking. The sheath compartment holds the folding knife - in my kits I use a Cold Steel Finn Wolf with Scandi edge and Triad Lock for wood processing for kindling and tinder. One of the side elastic tensioning bands holds a 4"x3/8" Ferrocerium (flint) rod and a length of fatwood; the other elastic side holds a 4"x3/8" ceramic rod for maintaining a good edge.
This double sheath was purchased to hold a Swiss Army 111mm Ranger (for its wood saw, utility blade, and typical tools) in one sheath, and the Cold Steel Finn Wolf in the other, with the same Ferrocerium rod, fatwood, and ceramic rod held by the outside elastic bands.
Maxpedition products are built to last a lifetime of hard use. This will be no exception.

Versatile and rugged

Having used Maxpedition gear in the past, the many features and substantial price go without saying. The pouches are well-sized for anything from a penlight to a double-stack magazine, with elastic to keep things unfloppy. The removable/repositionable flap covers are an extra plus, enabling fitting to longer or shorter items. The 2-way belt mount is also a plus. Just a little pricey for the material.

  • rugged, versatile
