Description
Malkoff Devices M61WL (Neutral Tint, Low Output) LED Upgrade

The Malkoff M61 P60-style drop-in LED upgrade fits SureFire 6P, 6Z, C2, and G2 flashlights as well as the Malkoff MD2 and Elzetta ZFL-M60 lights. A solid brass body acts as a heat sink for optimal heat dissipation so you do not need to worry about your flashlight overheating. The orange peel reflector has been designed to give a balance of throw and spill.

The M61 is made to run in lights using two CR123A batteries and operates with regulation within 3.4-9V. When the voltage falls below 3.4V, the light will run in direct drive. The bright output will blind anyone within a 50 foot radius or illuminate objects up to 150+ feet away.

The M61 is available in a few different varieties. All versions are made in the United States with the same rugged, durable build-quality. The two main differences between the models are: the tint of the LED (either standard or neutral white), and the output/runtime. Models with lower output (and greater runtime) are indicated by an 'L'. The neutral white tint versions are denoted by a "W". This version is the M61WL, offering the neutral white tint with the middle runtimes to output of the M61 models at 125 lumens with 5 hours of runtime.

A fitting ring is required if used with a shock-absorbing head (ie M2). An M61 Lens, or suitable equivalent, is required for use in the Malkoff MD2 and Elzetta flashlights.

Note: This mod will not work in Wolf Eyes Lights.

Note: This drop-in module is intended to operate for extended periods in metal or plastic lights.

WARNING: This light is capable of causing eye damage at close range. Please use the light responsibly!!!

Stellar upgrade for "hotwires" fans!
December 28, 2015
The Malkoff M61WL is a fantastic dropin, especially for fans of "hotwires" (ie incandescent bulbs). It was designed to mimic the tint and color temperature of an incan, and I have to say it comes pretty close. I installed this dropin in a Surefire 6P. Just for comparison I put the old incan back into my 2nd 6P to compare them. The results were illuminating (if you'll pardon the pun). The tint is very close! The Surefire incan bulb is slightly more yellow/orange than the Malkoff but the difference is subtle. The biggest difference is the beam quality; the M61WL is much better. Both of my Surefire incan bulbs have egg shaped throws with lots of artifacts, along with a tight hotspot with very little spill. In contrast the Malkoff dropin has a very smooth, round and large spot with a very good amount of spill. The spot is just a little larger than the spot of the incan but the spill is vastly larger, and quite uniform.

Of course, the LED runs a lot cooler, and a lot longer. With the incan they claim an hour of runtime but in reality the output drops precipitously after about 15 minutes. The incan also gets very hot. The M61WL runs a lot cooler; the entire head is a heavy brass heat sink. I haven't tested the runtime of this particular dropin but I have other Malkoff "L" heads and they run for around five hours before they begin to drop out of regulation. The Malkoff light engine is a lot more durable, too. The Surefire incan bulbs are prone to breaking if dropped. But you could use the light as a hammer with the Malkoff dropin installed!

The tint/color temp is really great! It's warmer than a Nichia 219B , Malkoff M61N or Elzetta Alpha or AVS head, although a little cooler than an actual incan. But unless you compared it head to head with the incan you could mistake it for one.

All in all a great dropin! I tend to prefer the neutral lights over the warmer ones for appearance and for max output. But this one has me thinking of trying an M61W. Highly recommended!

This is a great dropin for someone that likes the quality/tint of incan but wants to get the durability and long runtime of an LED.
Pros- Great build quality - Fully potted - Runs cool - Very close to the color temp of an incan
Cons- Expensive (although worth the cost) - Somewhat heavy
