Infinite Control

The HC90's brilliant interface makes it one of the most unique headlamps on the market. The ability to control output on a very precise level is coupled with massive outputs to make this a truly utilitarian piece of gear. The HC90 is perfect for hikers, campers, and hunters as well as anyone who's ever found themselves stuck on a tough job site as the sun goes down. Hands-free illumination is essential to a variety of tasks, and Nitecore has found the ultimate LED device to light up your world. The single switch at the top of the light has the ability to ramp up power from a 1 lumen low all the way to a 900 lumen maximum. Stop the switch at any point along the way to keep the HC90 at the exact output you need.

Rugged construction

Nitecore knows that all the features in the world are no good if they can't withstand the punishment of real-world use. That's why the HC90 is built from ultra-strong anodized aluminum and fitted with O-ring seals that allow complete water resistance in up to two meters of water for 30 minutes. The HC90 is also impact resistant and protected against scratches and corrosion, so you can be sure this piece of gear can last through the toughest bock-country conditions or job-site hazards.

Red, Green, Blue, For The Win

On top of the brilliant white LED, Nitecore also included three colored LED's that offer a full spectrum of benefits. Red light preserves night vision, blue light aids in tracking game, and green light maintains a low profile. Each setting can be accessed without having to cycle through the white LED , making this an extremely practical device for hikers and hunters alike. Powered by a single 18650 or two CR123A batteries, the HC90 is a truly well-rounded piece of gear.

  • Infinite adjustable brightness outputs via the smooth sliding control
  • Integrated micro-USB port for internal recharging (Only when equipped with 18650 battery, do not attempt to recharge when equipped with CR123As)

An almost perfect headlamp
Well, I needed a headlamp with no idea what brightness level I'd need. This was the only one that was fully adjustable from off to full bright and it works perfect for my needs. I can use it while me and my wife watch TV and assemble tiny parts with perfect visibility. As long as I remember to knot look at my wife all is well.
ProsInfinitely adjustable uses 18650 batteries Batteries last plenty long enough Reasonably comfortable The light is very even
ConsIt could be lighter, not that it's heavy, just that lighter would be better I've no way to measure light output but it's hard to imagine it's really 900 lumens. I've nothing to judge but 900 seems like it should be really really bright. it's expensive I've no use for the colored LEDs and the brightness of them is fixed.

Nitecore HC90
Very bright headlamp! And pretty light, considering the all metal construction. I like the sliding switch feature, though will undo the battery cap a turn on so to make sure it wont turn on when it is in a pocket or pack!
ProsBright Lightweight All metal
ConsShorter battery life, compared to headlamps with battery packs. But that is a trade off for the lighter weight and convenience!

LED headlamps keep improving
LED headlamps keep improving, and the HC90 is the current leader of the pack. Time will tell if the slider switch remains reliable after exposure to the elements.
ProsConstruction, light settings.

Very bright, functional, and survived hard impact
Teenager-resistant, too. My teenage borrowed it to go out in the rain, then forgot he had it on, and came inside and shook himself off like a wet dog, sending the lamp flying two meters onto concrete -- beyond the impact specs. Other than a tiny paint chip on a corner, it was fine. Great lamp. Safety note: ALWAYS unscrew the battery cap a turn when putting it away for a while, even in a pocket. On turbo mode, I accidentally melted a hole through a winter coat (a couple of nylon layers, with smoke and all) when I held it against the fabric for 5-10? seconds, and long before the lamp housing could get warm. Respect the power, and don't start a fire. Treat it like the power tool that it is. It can turn night into day, and is well worth the cost and a little precaution when putting it away.
ProsBRIGHT. Wide angle. DURABLE. Comfortable. Can and should disable by loosening cap when putting away.

Very happy with this purchase. The slider has detents for reg/green/blue and off. Then slides freely from dimmest to very bright, with another detent at the end for turbo. Some reviewers were unhappy with the slider, saying it felt cheap... I suppose it could be sturdier, but it seems solid enough to me. It isnt like it is protruding from the body of it, where it could snap off easily. Very satisfied!

Very bright with nice controls
I've only had this light about a week but so far I'm impressed. Its a bit heavy after coming from Petzl head lamps but it is like night and day in term of brightness. The light is more floody than a focused beam, but that is OK. It really lights up the area in front of you and does reach out quite a distance. The construction is sturdy with heat sink fins on the front to keep the temps under control. The magnetic slid switch has detents for off, high, boost and the colored light LED's. I've heard of issues with this switch, but mine functions well, and its nice to control the amount of light you need and keep the battery life longer. I'm using a single 18650 from Nitecore and like other reviews state, it's a tight fit. After a full charge I was able to remove the battery by just shaking the light. It is nice to be able to charge the battery inside the light with the USB charging cable. It will be convienent to be able to charge it in my car. Seems like a great head lamp.
ProsSturdy construction, magnetic slide switch, USB charging, very bright.
ConsHeavy, we'll see if it can be worn for long periods.

Perfect hands free
This is the second of this type light I bought. I used to carry mag lites in my cars. I have since replaced them with head lamps. I used them so much i had to buy one for my home in order to stop borrowing from my car. The other lights were not as powerful as this one. I needed more power for the home as working in the day the pupils are small and need more light. I also use this light on my long runs in the dark winter months. The light is wide enough to cover the area you are working in. I find the red light was powerful enough for my running without ruining my night vision. Also the red light let cars know I am there. The light fits very comfortable on the head and is light enough not to bounce around as you run. While working on the house I find that I wear it all day as it is comfortable enough and the controls are easy and intuitive.
ProsPlenty of power for daytime use and wide angle enough for close work as well as near distant. No wires to a battery pack.

What is required for the 18650 charger? xx Volts, yy Amps? Is the charger included? If not, what do you recommend?
1 Answer
The HC90 is rechargeable and features a micro-USB port on the side of the headlamp. If you are looking for a 18650 charger, then we recommend the Nitecore D2 Digicharger or Nitecore D4 Digicharger.
