A very good Headlamp for working, doing repairs, BBQing in the Dark, organizing around the camp sight, putting up a tent in the dark, etc.

This headlamp is meant for near work. It is essentially a floodlight rather than a spotlight for distant viewing in the dark.

It has 3 modes: a general flood with 4 steps, a special flood with high CRI good for reading, and a decent 2 step Red light mode for preserving night vision.

It has a good mix set of features for the under $40 price range.

The main flood with 450 Lumens Max (ie momentary Turbo) can light up a small campsite for few minutes. The High mode is a decent light 210 lumens for ≠4 hours makes it a decent work light. The low mode is adequate for mucking around inside a tent, etc. This is my second one NU35. I use this as a work light for odd jobs around the house and the other while on the road.

While the high CRI might be enough lumens for reading, it is not enough for me to read a book, but it's fine for maps, brochures and flyers. I wish the main light was high CRI with steps down from 450 to 25 instead.

The red LED is fine for preserving one's night vision and not disturbing others. I'd prefer something brighter especially if I were doing photographic work or night hunting (for which this is not not at all meant for).

The battery situation is quirky. It is tri-powered meaning it has a small internal battery and runs of AAAs and of an external cellphone type battery pack. I think of the internal battery as the backup and the AAAs as the main power. The internal battery is relatively small and it doesn't kick in until a) you remove the AAAs or they die.

However it can run off an external battery pack! I've tried it just as a proof of concept and it worked! Put a good battery pack in a pocket or a holster. Get a long enough USB-C cable to run to the headlamp and your good to go. Theres a YouTube video on this should that it can be done fairly elegantly instead of as a Geeky Kludge.

I am an avid outdoorsman. That said, my day job keeps me indoors. But when I'm unleashed on weekends and holidays, I seek adventure and I need gear that can withstand the punishment of loading, unloading, use, misuse, and then being put back to await the next adventure. The Nitecore NU35 Headlamp fulfills my mission requirements.

It has dual power capability of a built-in Li ion batter pack or can run on 3-AAA batteries. The length of charge this unit can maintain will surprise you. Whether you need high brightness to find a particular landmark marking the trail back to your campsite with your quartered game, or low brightness settings to find the spork you dropped by the campfire, this headlamp's your huckleberry. In addition to high and low bright white light settings, it has a useful low and high brightness red light settings that I find helpful to not disturb those sleeping around me when I have the sudden urge to water the plants outside camp. :)

All kidding aside, this headlamp is very well made. Easy to learn to use. I liked it so much, I bought one for each of my family. The Nitecore NU35 Dual power hybrid meets all the needs I wanted it to. It packs well without fear of it being turned on since the buttons are covered. It has a built in battery and will run off just that, but you can add more batteries to extend its life. I can even hook up an external power pack to it to get unlimited run time. I can have three different battery types on this thing at one time. It will use my external battery pack power first, then the installed batteries and finally it will use the built in battery before dying out. You will always have backup power if you keep adding fresh recharged batteries and just keep the internal (Built-in) batteries for emergencies. I've yet to get it to that point. I found that it's just bright enough for my needs. The settings are perfect for various tasks. I bought two of these so my wife could also have one. I may even get more since these are getting harder to find. Lightweight, easy to operate (User friendly), very compact and comfortable to wear.
