Precision - Narrow in On Tactical Performance

The Precise Series (P series) from Nitecore has come forward as their line for premier tactical LED flashlights. All of these lights come outfitted with the latest LED technology and streamlined, intuitive user interfaces. The P16 stands out in this line as a light that straddles the line between every-day, around the house light and super precise, tactical light. The lumens-per-dollar value of this light is through the roof! We're such big fans of this light, we've even included it as number two on our Best Lumens-Per-Dollar flashlights.

Ultra-Bright with Super Long Throw

The P16 is advanced enough, and offers enough tactical capabilities, that it meets the demands of police officers and military personnel. Running on two CR123As or a single 18650 battery, the P16 outputs a blinding 960 lumens of light on High mode and gets an incredible 26 hours of runtime on low mode. At 1.57 inches in diameter, the head of the P16 is quite large in comparison to the wrest of the light, this is in order to provide the best in reflector technology. The P16 utilizes "Crystal Coated Technology" along with "Precision Digital Optics" to produce 20,900 candle power and 289 meters maximum throw distance. This six inch light can function as a legitimate search light with that kind of throw - if you have a big yard or otherwise a lot of land, you'll find this feature to be invaluable.

3 Output Modes, Strobe, and Beacon

There's an output for any situation with the P16. High, Medium, and Low offer their own advantages - High for maximum brightness/throw/search capabilities, Medium for most situations, and Low for the longest consistent run times. While Strobe is used for self defense to disorient and confuse attackers, SOS for emergency light-based communication, and super efficient beacon mode for the longest possible run times in emergency situations. The crenelated "window smasher" bezel is designed for just that, to break through hard objects otherwise impossible, or too dangerous, to break.

The P16 is built tough to withstand all weather, harsh work environments, and tactical applications. It's constructed with aero-grade aluminum alloy and given a HAIII military grade hard-anodized finish to resist wear and tear. Naturally the P16 is also O-ring sealed and IPX-8 rated, meaning it's fully submersible in up to 2 meters of water. It also comes with one of the most sturdy pocket clips I've ever seen come standard with a light - detachable (if you'd prefer it without), titanium plated stainless steel. The simple tail and side-switch interface allows for On/Off activation and cycles through modes, and the side-switch will light up to indicate 50% battery, or flash rapidly to indicate critically low battery levels. All of this make thew P16 one of the best tactical lights, for the price, on the market.

Nitecore P16 -- Better than expected
Well built, versatile, and powerful flashlight. I use a flashlight in a broad variety of circumstances. The P16 has performed well in both low light and no light environments. The momentary switch system is excellent.

Bright little torch.
Bought this to replace my two years old Nitecore MT26. The lumens on this things is incredible. I get complaints from people I contacted because the brightness would temporary blind them. Love it.

My new favorite flashlight!
Being a self-confessed flashlightholic, I've owned/own over one-hundred different torches over the years and have had many different favorites. For some reason, I never owned a Nitecore until purchasing the P16. I wanted a good thrower with a side-mounted mode switch. I was torn between the P16 and P12. (I ended up buying both. See P12 reviews.) I was not disappointed. The P16 has a good spot with decent spill. The color is on the cool white side, but not too far on the cool white side. I like how the strobe, sos and beacon modes are accessed differently than the other level modes. That way you don't have to cycle through those as well to find the right level. The side-mounted mode switch is just firm enough where you don't find yourself accidentally hitting it just by changing your grip. I feel the P16's 960 lumens is brighter than the 1,000 lumens of the P12. This is in part because of the wider head/better throw of the P16. The P16 can still fit into its holster with the grip ring on too. Overall build is excellent.

I Like This Flashlight More and More Everyday
Like many of the users here I am slowly building up a collection of flashlights ... always looking for the very best. Just this past holiday season I gave away eight flashlights as gifts. Some bigger than others -- and some brighter. This gave me an opportunity to use some of them before wrapping. Overall I have found this flashlight to be very sturdy, bright, the right size to put in my pocket if necessary and very dependable. And now it is my favorite. I must have a first generation because my P16 has four brightness levels. I lost my instructions but I would guess the first level is about 20 lumens, then about 300, then maybe 550 (I am guessing) and eventually the brightest setting of 960. So far I've only used CR123's in it but I have a new supply of the Olight 18650 (2600 lithium-ion) rechargeables I will try soon.
ProsEverything you would want in a flashlight!
ConsHaven't found any yet.

Worth every penny paid
I can not imagine getting a better light for the money. The off-on switch is still on the rear cap but the brightness setting is button up toward the front. Great ideal and works great.Could not be happier.
Prosgood run time on batteries, easy for older hands like mine to operate.lot of bang for your buck with P16 nitecore

Nitecore P16
I love the long throw distance on this flashlight. At 289 meters, it is great with just a little larger head than your normal EDC light. It is still easy to carry when doing chores, I just put the clip in the top clip groove and let the head stick out of my pocket a little bit. It doesn't seem to get as hot as the P12 when on high for long periods of time. The beam is real intense at 20900cd, which helps with the long throw, but the flood seems to be about the same as a P12 or Fenix PD35. You get the best of both worlds. I really like the battery power indicator in the side switch, so you can check battery power any time and its accurate to .01 volts. I have double checked the battery with a volt meter. The only gripes I have are minor. It needs a mode between the mid 230 lumen and the high 960 lumen modes. A 600 to 700 lumen mid high mode would be nice and like most Nitecore flashlight, the cigar ring is plastic instead of aluminum.
ProsLove the long throw and intense beam for the small size and battery power indicator light also build quality seems to be great
ConsWish it had a mode between mid 230 lumens and high 960 lumens

Sold on nitecore
Two months ago brought a P20UV which I wasn't too comfortable with the mode switch but loved the light output. But when I purchased the P16 for a family member i quickly changed my mind and kept it for myself. I purchased another brand for my family member and will send them one in the future. Its easy to operate and puts out a variety of useful beams. I'm so impressed with Nitecore flashlights that I'm planning to get a P12 for my EDC after the reviews.
ProsGreat light output, easy to carry, and operate.
ConsNothing worth mentioning.

Nitecore P16
Have had this light for several months now. Does everything I would want in a flashlight. I also have a P 12 not quite as bright as the P 16 but a very good light also. I also have a Surefire E2D LED. For the money get a Nitecore. You can buy 3 Nitecores for the price of one Surefire E2d.
ProsGreat price works very well
ConsNone that I have found.

Preliminary Review
Received the P16 last week. I've been playing with the mode switch a lot since, just to check for consistency. It seems to work well. While this light can certainly be used as an emergency flashlight for most, I'm not sure if law enforcement or military would like the idea that the light must be turned on from the rear switch and then cycled through the modes from the side switch. Yet, the P16 does has a memory function, so if you plan to use the strobe or highest setting for tactical situations, that can be done. Overall, it seems like a very functional light for most. The light does have a 3 minute step-down for the turbo mode. While I don't like this feature, it might be necessary for a smaller light like this, but because it is a very reasonable size that fits in my briefcase, I'm actually carrying it. In summary, so far it seems to do everything it claims.
ProsFunctional and fairly easy to learn and use. It fits in my briefcase.
ConsAutomatic 3 minute step-down in turbo.

great light
I got the P16 to replace my Streamlight TL2, now I'm Nitecore all the way. Great price and great quality. I've owned Streamlight for years, but when they didn't fix my TL2 after sending it in four times I gave up on Streamlight. Oh well thanks Nitecore. 8)

Do-It-All Light w/ Great Features
Nitecore is my new favorite light manufacturer! Bought this on sale and received it in time for last weekend's Scout Camporee. Wow! Light has a 4 speed transmission - really low, cheap headlight output, bright, and daylight (960 lumens lit up our whole dining/cooking area for a group of 14). The good part is it remembers what level you set!! Two more modes are included. Strobe and S.O.S All modes and levels are selected by the side switch (a battery level meter as well) and you turn the light on from the tail switch. Unit stands on end, has the bezel up front and come with an anti-roll device. Size is big enough and small enough for all tasks and every-day-carry. For the latter situation it comes with a holster but this does fit in my pocket - I have big pockets...over 6'6" - YMMV. Very solid but not too heavy even with 2 CR123's loaded. I am usually critical of some aspect of design on my gadgets but I can't find anything to fault with this powerhouse of a flashlight. And they include a kit w/ spare O-rings, clip, etc.
ProsPeak light output Variable levels (4) AND Memory Size Weight Battery meter (in switch) Safety - Strobe and SOS Accessories - lanyard, holster, removable clip, spare o-ring kit, etc.
ConsAbsolutely NONE!

P16 great light except....
This a powerful light with easy to use control features. Much more practical than the Olight M22 that I have. Minor problem is that the plastic ring included for attaching a lanyard is cheesy. It broke within a week after I attached an Olight lanyard and used the light in my emergency responder job.

Nitecor P16
This is a GREAT light. My reason for only 4 stars is that it did not have a indicator light to let you find it in the dark like my EC2 and EC25. The P16 has a great beam on all the settings.( it really is a 5 star light) I like ALL my Nitecore flashlights so much I have the \"New Headlight\" on order. Knowing it will have all the qualities of Nitecore I\'m getting it sight unseen. Can\'t wait to get it.

Very impressive
My Olight M20 Warrior is now mounted on a combat shotgun and I needed a replacement for the nightstand where the M20 once resided. The Nitecore P16 caught my eye for price and performance and I heard many good things for Nitecore products. The low setting is perfect for getting around the bedroom without waking the wife or losing my night vision. Having the function switch up front means I no longer need two hands to operate the light, a feature sadly missing on my M20 and M30 lights. I was in awe of the high output of the XM-L2. Just when I thought they couldn\'t possibly get any brighter the new series of LEDS are phenomenal performers. It doesn\'t come in a fitted case like the Olights but who keeps them in a case anyway after you buy them? One exception, my Olight SR90. The P16 is very well constructed and should give good service for a long time. Don\'t hesitate to purchase this light, it won\'t disappoint.

Great Value
I really like this light! I also have a Klarus and an Olight but this is my favorite. I use it on duty on patrol and I like the balance in my hand and of course the brightness! Has a battery indicator light in the front switch but not sure how it works yet since batteries are new. Great deal too $$$!
