with that being said I have to say I have the Baton 1 & Baton 2 and have been very happy with both. So I don/t know what happened with this one.
The Baton 3 is exactly the same size as the S1R2, but there is no lanyard hole on the tail end. I found the tint more on the Cool White side as compared to Neutral White. The hot spot is slightly tighter and more defined than on the S1R2. The 1200 LU Turbo on the Baton 3 is slightly, but noticeably, brighter than the Turbo 1000 LU of the S1R2. The 300 LU High of the Baton 3 is noticeably less bright than the 600 LU High on the S1R2. Both Turbo levels are fine for any EDC application in my opinion. The lower High level of 300 LU on the Baton 3 is not much dimmer than the High 600 LU of the S1R2 and the Baton 3 will give significantly longer runtimes as a result of the new, more efficient circuitry. That is a trade-off I am more than willing to make.
Regarding the fit and finish of the Baton 3, the new knurling is not much different in feel compared to the S1R2. I did like the way it felt a little bit more compared to the S1R2 though. The Rose Gold pocket clip, bezel ring and on the ring around the side switch are very nice accents to the beautiful red finish. The threads are smooth and came well lubed.
Overall, I am happy with my purchase of the new Baton 3.
I also have the charging case and have the following observations as well-
I noticed the red case felt on the plasticky side and can be a little slippery. The Baton 3 only fits in one way and is indexed by the clip. If you choose to charge an S1R2, you have to remove the lanyard from the tail end, otherwise, it will not fit. It will fit if the lanyard is attached to the top of the clip near the lens though. When you open the case, the status light will turn on and show you how much power is left in the built-in 18650 3500 mAh battery. The battery cannot be removed. The status light will stay lit for about 8 seconds upon opening it. If you have a flashlight in the slot, that indicator light will also light up and stay on for about 8 seconds. I took a Baton 3 down to 3.80v, per my multi meter, and the battery status light on the side switch showed red. I placed it into the charging case and it took almost 2 hrs before the indicator light turned green. The specs stated it takes 1 hr. to charge a Baton 3. I checked the level of the battery in the Baton 3 and found it was only at 4.13v. I was able to reach 4.20v when charging via the magnetic cable route after about 45 more minutes. Still, 4.13v was enough to make the status light show green in both the charging case and on the side switch of the Baton 3. On a separate occasion, I tried leaving the Baton 3 in its charging case for 24 hrs and it was still only at 4.13v at that point.
I brought the charging case down to its flashing red status and charged it back up. It took over 3 hrs. That is longer than the specs listing of 2.5 hrs. I also noticed, as the charging case got lower and lower in battery power, it took longer and longer to bring a drained battery in the S1R2 or Baton 3 back to fully charged. I still consider the charging case a good new feature though. It gives you the opportunity to be able to recharge a dead battery without the need of any cables, outlets or power banks for a few charges.
I would recommend getting the charging case to go with the Baton 3.
