The Petzl Tactikka Core Rechargeable Headlamp is sure to be a favorite hands-free lighting option for a wide range of activities and tasks. The multi-beam feature allows you to choose which beam pattern is best for you! Unlike other headlamps, you can pick which pattern and lighting color specifically suits the task at hand. The red light is ideal for nighttime reading or conversing with fellow campers and hikers without fear of blinding them, while the red strobe can be seen up to 700 meters away and can be used for valuable signaling. White lighting outputs range from 6 lumens all the way up to 450. Whether you are walking a path, trail finding or caving, this lamp has very fitting settings for each activity. Incredibly lightweight and weather resistant, you're going to want to take this light on every adventure.

Powered by a Hybrid Concept design, the Tactikka Core includes a rechargeable battery pack with a built-in micro USB port. The battery has status indicators built right in so you can be sure when your charge is complete. Can't get to a power source to charge up? Petzl thought of that too! You can use 3 x AAA batteries in the Core pack during emergencies.

    My current favorite headlamp!

    The Petzl Tactikka Core is my favorite headlamp. The output is excellent on high while balancing battery life. It offers a few useful modes including a red output while forgoing modes that never get used. The light is pretty comfortable and light weight as well. It's only rated as IPx4 but it seems to be reasonably waterproof. One of the big draws for most people will be the Core battery pack. I'm not big on rechargeable batteries but Petzl does it right. The Core pack charges with a regular micro-USB, no special charger needed. It charges quickly but the run time isn't as good as with lithium AAAs. Still, it's a handy thing to have especially for a light that's going to be used around the house (eg for power outages).

    There's not much I'd change about this lamp! Overall I feel it's about the best headlamp available for under $100.
