Excellent "penlight" - improved over MicroStream.

Purchased this light (x3) as a component of our family's emergency packs.

The light is very lightweight when equipped with a 1.5V lithium primary, and its included accessories of a pocket clip (reversible) and lanyard gives plenty of possibilities for carry that may be necessary/convenient during an emergency.

The increase in output - as well as selectable output - versus the MicroStream (which I also have) not only makes for excellent utility, but in my view justifies the jump in cost.

As another reviewer noted, the reversible clip is a bit tight on typical baseball cap bills. The included holster is also of limited value both in that it only allows for one mounting method/orientation as well as is very tight.

Better than I expected but could be even better

I like the fact that this light is a clickie as opposed to a twist-on. Battery life is as advertised. The center beam gradually blends into the spill light, so you won't have a very bright area in the center and then an overly noticeable drop-off into the spill light area. This makes the beam very practical for most tasks where a 1AAA torch may be used. Much more of a floody than it is a thrower. The 2-way clip is nice but the end that opens to attach to the bill of a BB cap is very narrow and you will have to use two hands to pry that end of the clip open wide enough to slide the bill of the cap into. The clip on the 1L-1AA has a better/larger opening for this purpose. The clip is very tight. I tried to spin it and it scratched the body, so beware. I'm sure removing it and putting it back on would be even tougher. Lastly, the clickie is on the firmer side and the torch being a bit slippery and so small to begin with, it makes it a little difficult to get a good grip to turn it on with one hand. I wrapped a piece of grippy tape around the body of the torch where it is smooth between the cooling fins and the clip. That helped a lot.

Carry this light in my pocket every day. I have both the ProTac and the microstream and the difference in the brightness is well worth the difference in the price of the two lights.
