Designed for tactical and specialized applications. infrared flashlights are most often used in conjuncture with other devices and camera equipment to produce true night vision, being able to see in absolute darkness. The Super Tac IR is sturdy, designed for tactical and combat scenarios with 6000 series aluminum casing and anodized finish. This is a specialized light for a specific purpose and it does that extremely well, just as you'd expect from all Streamlight products.

Great light for night vision devices!

I've had one of these for a couple of years, and have been most pleased with the performance of the light. With NV devices, especially Gen 1 or Gen 1+, it makes them perform like the next gen up, or better. It is a real IR blowtorch! More than worth the price (which is really not bad) for Gen 1 NVDs.

lots of power

This IR Infared has a lot of power and when used with my Sightmark Digital nightscope really lights it up for 200 yards or better. Only downside would be that while scanning with the scope if you pass an item
close, say fifty yards, it is a bit blinding. Better to use on board IR for locating and this for lighting.

Great IR beam for my Gen 1 night vision scope

I recently purchased an Armasight 5power Gen 1 night vision for my AR10. The scope works great but I wanted additional yardage and added the Super Tac IR. The range I was on last night was limited to 300 yards but it lite up the targets like it was daytime. No problems with the abuse that the 308 provides either. Great product.

Incredible addition to Gen 1 night scope.

Got a gen one night scope with an IR illuminator and it didn't produce much past 40 yds. with this one it easily goes out to 200 yds. I could see a black plastic mailbox on a cloudy night with the scope. Its light weight, well made and the light is non existent to the human eye unless you look into it. and then I thought the batteries were dead because the LED was just barely visible. It did produce a faint red spot on a white surface at foot. But through the night vision scope it was like I had a q beam on.
Pros
  • Light, comes with batteries, perfect size for barrel clamp, tail switch for easy one hand operation.
Cons
  • It is expensive. It uses a123 batteries and they are a bit finicky and dangerous as far as fire/explosion hazards are concerned. the local Nuclear power plant will not even let the a123 battery on their property due to a locker fire that was traced back to a 123 batts.

The Super Tac IR is equipped with a infrared LED and is not measured in lumens. It outputs 850nm and is only visible with night vision equipment.
