Even More Useful and Versatile Right Angle Light
"I've previously reviewed both the Niteye JC10 and JA10 Right Angle Lights. The JetBeam H10A is essentially an 'improved' version of the Niteye models. Same very good build quality of materials and finish, same good, strong magnetic tailcap, same strong, screw-on Pocket Clip that won't pop off, pretty much the same user interface concept with variable brightness sweeping up, down, and back again, and quick press to turn on and off. The JetBeam finish color is a bit blacker than the gray of the Niteye. Both provide memory of the brightness level selected as well. The Strobe requires a double click from the on mode, but, unfortunately, illuminates at the memory brightness, not the max, and a single or double click returns to the memory brightness. . . another click turns the light off. The big (or small) differences come in the purpose driven (as headlamp) inclusion of a headband (not fully assembled) with a broad silicone rubber, slide-in holder and over the head strap, a long press to turn on and off a small red LED blinking light under the lens for finding the 'headlamp' in the dark or helping you 'see' it when a job is finished, a crenellated bezel at the top end power button (does provide some added pressure over a the Niteye's smooth bezel), and, more importantly, the JetBeam accepts a 14500 cell for its highest output. The 14500 I tried worked, but didn't provide strobe brightness for some reason whereas an NiMH cell did. Further work to determine whether the JetBeam or 14500 is at fault. Otherwise the 'high' output of the JetBeam is less than that spec'd for the Niteye, but still adequate for looking at stuff. Apart from the concern at first blush for 14500 cell use in the JetBeam, this unit and its Niteye cousin provide very useful and versatile EDC use with their right angle light, magnetic base, fixed pocket clip, and variable brightness. Effectiveness of the strobe, however, is compromised if you happened to turn off at a low brightness."
