A (Hopefully) Long-Lived, Powerful, Rechargeable, and True AA Cell
"One benefit of the Chinese domination of the Lithium technologies has been the development of a myriad of Lithium battery technologies, cells, and products, of which the Nitecore NH2400 1. 5v AA USB-C rechargeable cells are among the latest. Some prefer such replaceable, externally rechargeable cells for their flashlights and other gear instead of built-in custom batteries. Beyond that, there are numerous AA-cell powered products that don't perform well with NiMH cell technology (witness my 2-AA powered Panasonic Shaver previously using NiMH, which now runs SO much better with NH2400's). Such product are often damaged by leaky Alkaline primary cells. The Lithium Iron DiSulfide primary cells (also 1. 5v, e. g. , 'Ultimate's') have become way too expensive for just a single use. The Nitecore NH2400 AA comes to the rescue with capacity rivaling the best NiMH AA, weight between the heavier NiMH and lighter LiFeS2, and without risk of leakage. At introduction in 2025, these are a bit less than 2X the price of the widely regarded Panasonic Eneloop AA NiMH cells, but include a storage case and a clever USB-A to 4 USB-C charging cable, and can be charged via USB through its USB-C input with red to green LED charging status. I've purchased a few of these and given a couple to my adult children to try. There is no doubt that these will be my go-to for AA applications that perform poorly with NiMH's lower cell voltage despite the higher price point, which will hopefully come down with volume. Any other negative? Nitecore doesn't provide detailed battery performance - output versus load or versus temperature, standby / self-discharge life, or cycle life. So it remains to be seen how these will compare to NiMH in these regards. Nitecore has proven a maker of reliable products, so I'm optimistic."
