Don't waste your money
"This headlamp sounds like a great idea, but there are two problems, one an annoyance, and the other a deal breaker. The annoyance factor comes in when you are wearing the light and it either turns off or turns on as you move your head near any object close enough to make the 'wave' function operate. Yes, you can stop and wave your hand in front of your face again, or move your head past the object, but it is a pain in the butt. The deal breaker is the fact that the battery compartment that has tabs which are guaranteed to break, thereby rendering the entire light useless, unless you want to use duct tape or baling wire to hold it closed (and don't mind taking it off and putting it back on again each time you change batteries). If the battery pack was rechargeable via micro USB, you could tape it closed permanently and still use it, but it isn't. After this happened with the first Wave, I was extremely careful opening and closing the battery compartment on the replacement that Battery Junction sent to me, but it was wasted effort, as BOTH tabs broke on the second one they sent, just a few minutes ago. I had both of them for less than a year, and don't even use them much because of the annoyance factor. Most of that time they sat unused in my 'flashlight' drawer. Battery Junction was nice enough to replace the lamp the first time this happened, but I don't feel right asking them to eat the cost of another Wave when it isn't their fault, so I'll just throw this in the junk drawer against the chance I can find a use for the LED in another piece of equipment or application. Save yourself the headache and buy a different headlamp."

Solid performer, but a little too easy to shut off
"This is my second purchase of this item. The first one worked well but a tiny piece of plastic broke off the power pack that made it impossible to keep closed. Aside from that failure, the functionality is fine: the multiple levels of lighting, the ability to adjust the angle of the light, and the ability to turn it on and off with a hand wave are all desirable features. However, the 'wave on/off' feature is easily triggered by any obstruction that passes sufficiently close (within about a foot) of the headlamp's sensor. I find this happens quite often when working in tight spaces, such as an attic or crawl space, leaving me in the dark precisely when I need the light the most. Fortunately, the wave on/off feature can be disabled, and I find myself doing that fairly often."

Everyone Needs One
"This is the second one of these I have purchased. An extremely functional and effective light especially in power outages. Only reason it did not get 5 stars is that the wave function ( off and on ) can be somewhat irritating. Worth every penny!"

Like a real wave, this headlamp can ebb and flow.
"When using it around the home when it first arrived, it seemed like a good idea. Pressing the red button on the battery pack places the headlamp is in 'standby' mode. Pressing the red button on the position adjustable lamp housing turns on the white led in the low output mode. A wave of your hand in front of the lamp will extinguish the lamp. A second wave will turn it back on. Pressing the red button on the lamp housing again will extinguish the white led and turn on the two red leds for operation at night to preserve your night vision. A wave of your hand in front of the lamp housing will extinguish these lamps. A second wave will restore their operation. It should be noted that pressing the red lamp housing button for several seconds when the red leds are on will cause them to flash S O S. When the white led is on in low mode, depressing the red lamp housing button will cause the led to go into high output mode. In high mode the wave function is disabled, so you must press the red button to turn it off. My experience with this headlamp in low mode was frustrating. Any reflective surface in relatively close proximity to the lamp housing will activate the on/off function leaving the wearer in the dark. It would be nice for the wearer to enable or disable this function as needed. The second and more serious flaw is the design of the battery pack which holds the four AAA batteries. (The unit is not rechargeable as stated in the first description paragraph. ) The battery pack cap is held in place by two rather robust lugs which engage two rather flimsy tabs on either side of the housing. The user must twist the cap to gain access to the batteries. The body of the plastic housing is too thin, so one of these tabs has broken off, which renders the headlamp useless. This is a major design flaw which compromises an otherwise decent tool. Paying $50. 00 for 29 months of use is a bad investment. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this unit."

Great Lamp
"I needed a lamp for night time fishing. This fit the bill and then some. Wanted a light that was easy to turn on and off, this light has it. With others having to turn a light on and off with dirty stinky hands well, left the light and hat/head smelling. With this a simple wave turns it on or off when needed. I could see how doing things close could cause it to turn on and off (I've used it for auto work, and yes if your too close the IR can reflect and turn off) so it may be best where your not going to turn it on and off accidentally. With that said I still recommend it, no it's not a military service grade lamp, however for the price, it's perfect. Great for night time fishing when you need it to be on and off."

too complicated
"I purchased this for my sister who is a geologist and avidly climbs. It is almost useless for serious outdoor work. The wave feature will activate when she is reaching for rock or swinging an axe. Also, it is complicated to use. Yes, there are instructions, but you don't need instructions with most head lamps. When the chips are down, the rain/snow is driving, it is dark and you are fumbling with the buttons you will see why I can't recommend this head lamp."

Great Headlamp
"I've only really used this headlamp for everyday tasks, but it has held up well. The gesture activation is actually surprisingly helpful, I really thought it would just be a gimmick when I bought the light."
