Good, but disappointed with runtime
"I bought one of these to try in a headlamp I use for winter hiking. It handles the cold but the runtime is much shorter than with lithium primaries. I guess the mAh limitation on the lithium rechargeables isn't surmountable yet. I need to get a bunch more to swap in."
Q&A
- Does the fact that these batteries are protected against overcharging and over-discharging mean that I can use them without a battery management/charging card? More specifically, if I put them in a device that can be powered by a 9-12V adapter or by 9-12V from the batteries and connect the adapter directly to the batteries, so that 3 cells in series are subject to 12V charging voltage when the device is plugged in, will the cells be safe from being overcharged?
- Protected batteries are meant to be used individually and not made into packs. You would need unprotected cells and a PCB to build a pack, which we would not recommend without a working knowledge of pack building.
- Will this battery work in solar path lights? I am trying to replace a Li-ion 14500 500mah 3.7v but it seems that 500mah in the 3.7v 14500 is unattainable. I want to make sure this will work before I purchase.
- I believe that that would be a good choice for lights that take lithium ion 14500 batteries.
