4 Ways to Level Up Your Camping Trip!

The right gear turns a good camping trip into a great one. Whether you're a seasoned camper or just getting started, having the right tools on hand means less stress and more fun. We've rounded up a few essentials that campers shouldn't live without.

From bright lanterns to high-capacity power banks, we have must-have gear that's important for your camping trip!

Don't be lost in the dark!

You Need the Right Headlamp

They're easy to forget but make all the difference! From navigating a dark trail to your campsite or wrestling with tent poles at midnight, hands-free lighting is an essential game changer.

Since you're away from power sources, your camping headlamp should ideally be able to run via replaceable batteries, such as AAs, AAAs, or CR123As. Rechargeable batteries are quick and convenient at home, but you can't beat a fresh battery swap when you're out in the wild.

Also, don't forget extra modes! A good camping headlamp should have a red light setting to preserve your night vision, plus an SOS or strobe emergency mode so you can signal for help if things go sideways. These features seem small until the moment you actually need them, and then they're everything.

Light up your surroundings!

Lanterns = Perfect Ambient Lighting

When it's time to light up the whole campsite, a headlamp just won't cut it, and that's where a good camping lantern comes in. Whether you're cooking dinner, playing cards, or just hanging out under the stars, a lantern throws off enough ambient light to keep you and your camping buds happy.

Look for one that runs on replaceable batteries or has a rechargeable built-in option with a long battery life. You don't want your light dying halfway through the night. Brightness matters too, so check the lumens; something in the 200–400 lumen range is plenty for most campsites.

A collapsible or foldable design is also a huge win for saving space in your pack. The Fitorch CP100 is a great example of this. It's fully foldable and includes a telescopic stand so you can prop it up around the campground. With cool/warm white options, variable brightness, and the ability to charge your phone, it's a no-brainer.

You're Not Totally Off-the-Grid...

Have Backup Charging with a Power Bank!

In a perfect world, you'd go full off-grid and forget your devices exist, but let's face it, you live in reality. You need to keep that smartphone of yours charged. On a camping trip that can be a safety essential, not just a convenience. You may not realize it, but your phone does a lot of heavy lifting, keeping track of maps, emergency contacts, weather updates, and more. "Quickly" checking social media will drain that battery too.

A solid power bank means you're never caught with a dead device when you need it most. Look for one with a high capacity (10,000–20,000mAh is a sweet spot for most trips) so you can get multiple charges out of a single bank. Durability matters too, so you should go for something water-resistant or rugged if you're heading somewhere wet or rough.

There's more where that came from

The Finishing Touches

It's the small stuff that separates a smooth camping trip from a frustrating one. Use Tarps as extra shelter, a ground cover, or a rain fly when the weather turns. Pair that with tent stakes and you've got a setup that can handle some wind and rain.

A weather radio is something you'll never regret packing. You can stay ahead of incoming storms without draining your phone battery. A good multitool and a reliable knife are reliable tools between cutting rope, prepping food, making repairs, and plenty of other little tasks.

Don't forget camping utensils either! A lightweight spork or a compact utensil set keeps mealtime familiar without taking up any real space in your bag. And while you're at it, throw in a paracord and zip ties. They are super lightweight and have saved more camping trips than we can count.

Cover your bases with the little things and you'll be ready for just about anything the outdoors throws at you!
