"I have yet to replace a Panasonic Eneloop cell, whether AA or AAA. I have tried other, less expensive brands, including IKEA NiMH cells, but whether buying for my own purposes or for gifts (I strongly recommend never to use Alkaline cells for leakage damage), so include Envelops whenever I gift a battery operated device. Recently LiIon 1. 5v rechargeable cells have become available, affording full power to devices requiring full 1. 5v, but these are unproven in cycle-life reliability and with unspecified shelf-life, so the Eneloop is still the dependable choice."

"Are there less expensive NiMH cells? Yes. Are they as dependable? Have as long a standby life? Have as long and reliable a cycle life? Not in my experience. That's why I buy Eneloop cells especially for flashlights and devices that I use for ""emergency"" or ""first aid kit"" use (mechanically preventing standby discharge)."

"These batteries have become the standard by which other rechargeables are measured and for good reason. The charge lasts a long time, as long as mentioned. I have some of these that sit in an outside thermometer in the cold, heat, rain, and sun. They are showing their age with more resistance, but are still running and have more than paid for themselves over alkaline or lithium. They also won't leak nasty all over your terminals like alkaline."
