"Turns out there is a very practical advantage to a small carbon fiber flashlight - vastly improved grip, especially when activating the tail switch. Another advantage, is if you work around electrical circuits, it is less likely to cause a short circuit, as an aluminum light would. I also love that this light can use, and comes with a rechargeable lithium ion battery, unlike previous versions. And lastly, it is just a very pretty flashlight!"
"I purchased the 'Blue HCRI' option which has a 'warmer' color index at 90 CRI and 5000 Kelvin, meaning it represents colors better than the 70 CRI and 6000K 'cooler white' of the regular i5R EOS lights. This LED light is only rated at a brightness of 285 Lumens compared to the 350 that is advertised on the standard versions. And I even find it slightly less bright than my i3T Plus, which throws an advertised 250 lumens. The beam also has a wider flood than the i3T Plus. There is no centrally focused beam with these either, it has a very smooth gradient, so you won't get intense throwing distance from this tool. Operation is simplistic. The switch turns the light on to the low level > press twice more from there to get to the high output. The switch turns the light off no matter what brightness level it is on; you can't go directly from one brightness level to the next < that's why a double|triple-press is required. The i5R EOS light uses a specialized|proprietary 2. 4V Li-ion 14500 battery, instead of the common 3. 7V batteries you will usually encounter. It is not recommended to use standard 3. 7V batteries with this light, as it could cause them to malfunction or fail. Attempt that at your own peril. These flashlights also support dual battery chemistry; so they can optionally use a 1. 5V/1. 2V AA battery (Alkaline or NiMH) - which, in turn, I have found to reduce the brightness. This is likely due to the flashlight defaulting to its non-burst mode (43% of max level). All-in-all, I prefer the High CRI illumination from this light over its cousin (the i3T Plus), finding it to be less harsh. Comparably, the shorter length feels better in the hand, while the difference in girth doesn't matter, in my judgement. I'm so pleased with this one; I'm going to get a ""limited edition titanium i5T EOS"" and throw one of these 2. 4V rechargeables into it, upgrading it to a ""limited edition i5R EOS Ti""."
"I have a couple of the original, straight AA lights. I like the quick switch to higher output with the availability to run the higher voltage batteries and still use the AA as a back up."

"i love my new i5r. personally, i picked up one of the limited edition colors cause the orange was really calling my name. overall, light is great. love the option of using the included 14500 battery which has a convenient usb-c port or a regular aa. i have many lying around my house so while the included battery is charging I can still use my i5r. love the color choices and the lumen output is perfect for my everyday needs. would def recommend to friends and family."
"I should have realized the i5R is basically an i5T that can run on an Olight customized battery. Sure, it is slightly brighter than the i5T and when you switch from low to high, it does not gradually ramp up like the i5T does. It goes to the higher mode instantly. The i5R can run on a regular AA battery which is good, but the fact that the customized 14500 battery has to be removed from the flashlight to charge, is a downer. At least it came with a USB-C cable. I am disappointed in this purchase."
