Lighting Technology
CREE LED
The E99 Ti comes equipped with a CREE XP-E2 LED and will produce a very bright 100 lumens. You can use the reliable twist switch with one hand to cycle down to the 27 lumen Mid mode and finally down to the subtle 4 lumen Low mode. A quick twist back and forth on the head of the light will allow you to switch between the three different outputs. The digitally regulated circuit maintains constant brightness even when the batteries are getting low. You can also use the E99 Ti in candle mode by sitting the light flat on its tail.
Power
Widely Available and Inexpensive
Powering the E99 Ti is a single AAA battery, which can be a primary alkaline battery or a rechargeable NiMh battery. The choice is yours. I personally would spend a little extra on the rechargeable NiMh battery, so you can recharge and save money in the long run. The E99 Ti is IPX-8 waterproof, so you don't have to worry if it starts raining or you accidentally drop it in a puddle of water.

Limited Edition Gift Item Really Shines
"The Fenix E99 Ti is a nice gift item for someone who isn't heavy into flashlights. Comes in a nice faux leather snap-open-lid box, presented nicely. Wants to be engraved on its clean flat. Looks and feels very good in hand. As to design, the Fenix driver gives a lower low and a higher high than the 2014 E05, so those who like to use a ChapStick cap for an area light will be pleased with the dimmer 4 Lumens in their tent at night, or the brighter 100 Lumens to illuminate a broader area using that diffuser. Color of the LED is colder (more bluish) than the 2014 E05, likely aiding in achieving the 100 Lumen high. As other reviewers have noted, the Titanium threads tend to be a bit gritty, offering greater resistance to twisting to on. For most uses, I need only momentary light, so I keep the torch 'just off', and press down with thumb and forefinger on the head of the torch to give a momentary on, repeating to increase brightness. When I do need to keep the torch on, I do notice the greater resistance to twist the head tight compared to an E01 or 2014 E05. Flashlight 'Pro's' will object to the gritty feel and work to clean it up. I won't bother. Personally I prefer the brightness levels of the 2014 E05 and its smoother operation, but as a gift item for most people, this 'shines'."
