The HP11 is fitted with a CREE XP-G (R5) LED that has an incredible long lasting lifetime of 50,000 hours! Using just four 1.5V AA Ni-MH batteries, you can blast out a blistering 277 lumens for almost four hours non stop! Turbo mode just too much light for the setting? That is perfectly alright, just tap the silver mode switch on the bezel to select 133 lumen High mode, 55 lumen Mid mode, or 4 lumen Low mode. Wait a minute, is that your hiking buddy in the woods? It looks like she lost her way and it is dark, so turn on the 277 lumen Strobe mode to get her attention. Great, now you are both lost! Thankfully, you put your HP11 on a high rock and set it to its 55 lumen SOS mode. An additional 55 lumen Frequent Flash mode is included in this reliable, lifesaving and bright light.Put to the Test

"I have this in my 'outdoor' bag. It puts out a lot of light, and with the lamp on front, battery on back makes it super balanced so it's not trying to fall off while walking. The light output is more than enough, generally only using enough power (light) to see, which at night isn't much when it's pitch black. I've had no issues with this light working, and the battery power is decent when using the lower powers. The higher (brighter) you go yes it cuts down on run time. Great light when you need both hands free (setting up camp at night) or anything like that. It would even be good for changing a tire on the side of the road, again when your hands need to be free."
Excellent emergency lantern
"I bought one of these lights recently, and tried out the beams. Yes, the ratchet is a plastic mechanism that is quite common among these headlights. But, it seems solid enough. As for the light, it is a very good quality. You get a diffuser if you need broad light, and that works fine. Without it, you can see a nice area in front of you. The low mode is sufficient for general use when you do not wish excessive light (such as not disturbing other campers), and the high mode is perfect for when you need more light. The medium modes are also fine. The switches, located on the lamp, are a bit noisy to activate (possible disturbance in exchange for knowing it has activated with a nice and certain click). All flashy modes are available. When the light is fully up, the case gets in the way of activating the switches (again, the payoff is no accidental activation to waste the batteries). This is only IPX6 water resistant, and the battery case is the limiting factor here. This is fine if you are working under the car hood, working on inspecting a turbine on an airplane, or working in a grocery store if the lights go out and the generator goes dead or is non-existent. Which is what I recommend this light for, along with cave exploration or general camping. You might also be able to use it if you get a home blackout. I also like that you can use NiMH batteries instead of more dangerous (and expensive and less reliable) lithium ion. Alkalines will do if you really need them, though Fenix seems to like those NiMH batteries for the sake of less waste, less pollution in the landfills, and less scrambling to the store for batteries in an emergency. And yes, I recommend getting a generous supply of NiMH batteries--low self-discharge preferably--and a good charger so you will have this fine light the next time the lights go out. And, next time you fly, you might be able to thank Fenix for the plane landing safely if the mechanics are smart enough to get this and similar products to inspect the innards. Sure beats the wimpy lights that used to be available a few short years ago, and are standard fare even today."
Works great, hinge stinks
"The light is held in position only by a small plastic part that ratchets by hand. It broke eventually, and the light had to be held in place by making an L bracket from scrap steel and using double-sided tape. I am waiting to hear from Fenix or Battery Junction to see if they will send me the small plastic cap and ratchet or repair the light. This light works great, as far as the LED and electronics go, and with 4 AA rechargable batteries, you have plenty of run time. I use mine while cycling and sometimes mowing if it gets dark before I finish. I wish they made this with a bolt and wingnut for tension/adjustment of lamp position."

"have had this unit all summer. i use the tenergy Nimh 2600 mAh batterys with it and get great performance out of both. I have used it for camping, nite hunting, and working in crawl spaces. it has done all with out fault!!!! the beam on high is very tight and can see anything in tree or on low the coon will look right at you so thier eyes just glow. highly like this unit !!!!"
