"Overall the flashlight is made very well. However the description of the round linear volume control was actually a step control. Turn the control to reach the next higher STEP in brightness of the flashlight instead of what I assumed was an infinitely variable control. I am keeping this flashlight as it is the only one I now own which has a red, green and blue output option. It is also heavier than I expected."
"Now that Klarus no longer makes their EDC multi-color light I bought a JetBeam RRT03. But the first one wouldn't work with non-protected module batteries. They rattled back and forth when used - no light. Matthew in customer service tested another from stock and sent one that worked with both protected and non-protected Li-ion batteries. OK, looking at both RRT03s, the work/doesn't-work reason was found - a collapsing concentric outer spring. JetBeam has a good idea on how to compensate for using different battery lengths (with and without protection modules) by using a concentric spring arrangement for the negative battery end. It uses a longer, lower tension outer spring with a shorter and narrower, higher tension inner spring. This allows the shorter, non-protected battery to be used while avoiding spring set when a longer, protected module battery is used. Unfortunately, when the longer battery is used (and least in the first RRT03 I received) it locks the outer spring over the inner spring. When you remove the longer battery the spring doesn't release and that causes the non-protected shorter battery to not make contact with both terminals (hence the rattle effect when shaken). My solution may not be available to those that don't have specialized aerospace tools for working in close tolerance confined cavities. I have a spanner to remove the end cap (where I discovered this not unfamiliar spring trap arrangement) and a probe with a small hook on the end (think Danger UXB) to pull up and release the stuck outer spring. This re-enables the RRT03 to work properly with the shorter batteries that don't have protection modules. This trapped spring problem occasionally happened with the second RRT03 but not as firmly stuck. A slight pull releases it while the first needed a pull and swirling action. Alternatively, you can use a properly sized and maneuvered jeweler's, flat-tip screwdriver. So, I don't think it's a design defect but something that can occur with out of tolerance springs. Since JetBeam ships with a protection module battery their quality control would never catch this problem. Otherwise, I think this is an excellent EDC flashlight (one has the extra rings so I can use longer lasting 18650s) and commend Matthew for working with me to work it all out."
