"Disappointed with this purchase. I'm giving it two stars because it is, at least, a red LED light. That's about as much positive as I can say for it. Other than that, it leaves much to be desired. It's WAY too bright to use at a telescope when trying to keep dark-adaptation. Unlike the Nitecore Tube white-light version which is dimmable, this red one is just on or off. They obviously have circuitry to make a one-button dimmable light . . . why not install that on this light? Also, the light turns itself off after being on for a little while. I'm not sure how long it takes to turn itself off but I have noticed that, as the night progresses, it seems to turn itself off at shorter and shorter intervals. Definitely don't understand that but it's quite annoying."
"This is an excellent, very compact light. It recharges easily & quickly. The output is a very good tone of red. My only possible beef is that it's a bit bright for my usecases (very low-light situations), so I would have preferred more like 5 lumens, rather than the 13 it produces, since it's a bit too bright for a dark room or dark-night astronomy. However, as a general purpose red-only light that's dead-simple to use, it's just about ideal. It's great for searching for stuff you've lost in the dark or poking around under the hood, so I now keep mine in the car."
"I attached this light to the strap of my headlamp with some velcro, mainly fishing at night I like using the red light so my eyes are still adjusted to the darkness when i turn it off. Awesome addition to any headlamp for any hunter/fisherman."
"Nitecore's Tube form factor might be the best for an every day pocketable flashlight. I often have one clipped inside my pocket, its flat design makes it feel like it's not there. The tube series is much brighter than most other flashlights of this size, and USB rechargeable as well. After buying a white Tube, I later purchased the red RL to throw in my camera bag, so I could see my way around the camera when shooting at night. Again thanks to its size it takes up virtually no space in my camera bag, and I can recharge it at any time via USB. USB charging is a requirement for all flashlights and gear I travel with. The only disappointment is the Tube RL has no modes at all, simply on and off. The white tube has variable brightness an useful features that were removed for some reason from the RL. Click on, click off. Hold to lock out, which strangely reduces battery life. I wish it at least has one lower brightness. Not a huge problem because a red light is of limited use anyway, but why remove features? I should also mention that this casts a nice wide beam as well, compared to my Inova red, the Tube is much wider, though just as bright in the center."
