Both LEDs have their advantages, for example, the CREE version produces higher lumen outputs for a total of 1,000 lumens on turbo mode alone. However, the Nichia 219C has a 90+ CRI rating for accurate color rendering within the beam. With the ability to customize your light, it's easy to get the features you want in a convenient and smaller-than-average EDC light.
Traditional keychain lights are smaller than 2" long, so it can be difficult to press buttons in an efficient and quick manner or even hold the light properly, especially if you're wearing gloves. The A23 solves this problem with a slightly larger body, at just under 3" long, and features a pronounced metal side switch for easy activation of the A23 and all of its user modes.

"For it's size, this tiny light packs a wallop ! (literally, it's smaller than a finger, yet can put-out 1,000 lumens) The instruction manual is easy to comprehend. I feel this light makes for a great 'everyday carry light' or a great gift (because it won't get in the way, for someone who might not normally carry a flashlight) I'd recommend this light to friends & family. "I haven't had this long, these are my initial impressions. I like the simplistic look of the light, it's classy but still functional. Unlike the A3x it comes with a clip to keep it from rolling. Like the A3x I like the beam pattern (good spread). I purchased this based on it's combination of things, mainly: output, runtime, # of modes and reviews. Again, like the A3x; I would have no problem buying another one (and did)."
"For the longest time my trusty M1 Maverick was my edc, but this one is better. I find that late at night and outside, particularly during meteor shower season, the half lumen output is the best for night vision. Plus, the 1000 lumen output has come in handy. The only thing I don't like about these flashlights in general is that rechargeable lights continuously discharge over time and you need to keep up with the charging. I much prefer relying on a 10 year shelf life lithium battery."
