The Flash II is a revamped version of SOG's previous model, the Flash I. The Flash I went over very well with customers and knife enthusiasts alike, but SOG felt that a few improvements could be made to an already stellar knife. One of these improvements is that the Flash II blade is a bit longer than that of the Flash I. The Flash II's updated blade is also slightly thicker. The Flash II is a great folding knife that will go with you wherever you go and can work under a lot of different types of conditions. The Flash II is equipped with SOG Assisted Technology™, which aids the user in opening the knife smoothly and quickly. It is a special SOG design that is used on many of their folding knives. High-tension coil springs are the secret behind this innovative construction. This is known as a piston lock and is a very secure and simple method for opening and closing your new SOG knife.

The blade length on the SOG Flash II measures in at 3.5 inches; its steel type is 420, which is a good quality steel that stays sharp. The blade thickness is .13 inches. Its overall length is eight inches, and it weighs 3.10 oz. There are several different variations on the Flash II model, but this item is a satin finish, straight drop point blade. The Flash II is also available in a tanto blade point, sheepsfoot blade point, a hardcased black TINI finish, or a partially serrated edge. There are also a multitude of handle colors to choose from, including camo. A satin finish means that this coating is brighter than other blade finishes, such as bead blasted or powder coating, but it is not as shiny as a mirror polish. The hardness of this blade's steel is RC 57-58. "RC" indicates the Rockwell Scale, that tests the hardness of metals, particularly steel. A 57-58 rating means that this is a hard, tough steel that will hold up to repeated blows--penetration is minimal at this hardness rate, and it is difficult to dent. The steel that the Flash II is crafted from is AUS-8. This sort of steel is non-corrosive, keeps its edge, and is very strong. The SOG Flash II's handle is constructed of glass-reinforced nylon, a material that is very sturdy and tough; it's one of the best knife handle materials out there. The blade on the Flash II is also cryogenically heat-treated, which means that when the steel is worked on, the metal's temperature is lowered significantly and then is raised to room temperature; this process allows the steel to be hardened and strengthened, so that it will not break or fracture under pressure from usage. There is a second safety lock on the Flash II's handle, there to prevent unintentional display of your knife.
