Like a giant coming down from the mountain, SOG's Quake XL is one of their biggest folding knives. The massive 4.5" blade is made of top-quality VG-10 steel. This means you have a huge cutting surface that has the hardness to retain an edge over long usage. The Quake XL's most notable feature is its black crossguard, which is used as a lever to propel the blade open with SOG-Assisted Technology. A gentle push of the thumb is all it takes to get the springs to engage and flip your blade out.

Hard to open

"The review says all it takes is 'a gentle push of the thumb' to spring the blade open. Not true, you basically must use two fingers of the left hand, and be very careful because it will spring open violently. I have been playing with mine in the evening when watching T. V. , opening and closing repeatedly, hoping that it will break in at some point. After a week of doing this I can feel a slight easing of the pressure needed to open it, but it is still a two finger operation. Other than this, it is a big macho knife."
