Surefire G2X

"Can’t go wrong with the G2xpro. I have been a surefire fan for about 15 years. I have the 6PX pro on firearms and also every day uses. The G2X pro is a solid/ bomb proof light and a little bit lighter than the 6PX series and some better colors . I like the yellow for camping and the green for edc."

Perfect balance of spill and throw make this torch a winner

"OK, I have had my G2X for about a year now, so I have had a lot of time to weigh the pros and cons of this flashlight. One of the very first things I noticed about this light is near perfect combination of spill and throw. It's rare to have a flashlight that does an excellent job merging spill with throw so you get the benefits of both, but this is one of those flashlights. I consider it to be an excellent camping light, emergency car light, around home light, or Venezuela grid down power outage light. It may not be the best choice for EDC because it is not small and it does not come with a pocket clip or holster, but you can always buy a holster for it if you are so inclined. I was apprehensive about the lumen output at first because there are only two outputs (15 lumens and 600 lumens). The gap between 15 and 600 is fairly large and I thought I it should have something in the 200 range just to cover all the bases. However, after using this for over a year I am no longer concerned about that lumen gap. The 15 lumen output is actually perfect for navigating your home in the early morning hours and it is even adequate for most short range outdoor work. The high setting is adequate for outdoor work or tactical work. Plus I have found that the simplicity of having only two outputs makes switching outputs very predictable and easy to use. So far, battery life has been excellent and I attribute that to the availability and usefulness of the low output setting. I haven't dropped it in water or on a concrete floor yet so I can't speak to that kind of durability. But I have knocked it off a table during a camping trip and there were no damages whatsoever. Last but not least, I have found the tail switch to be well made, smooth, and accurate. It allows for momentary on or you can lock it on with a full click. It comes on at 15 lumens and a quick tap will move it to the higher output. This light always defaults to 15 lumens when you first turn it on (which is perfect for in home use). The only con I can think of is that I would like to be able to use 18650 batteries with it in addition to CR-123's. Lots of other flashlights allow this and I think Surefire should up their game and modify the G2X to do the same thing. But that's not a big deal and certainly isn't a deal breaker. I don't think anyone that buys this flashlight will be disappointed as long as you are buying it for a job that it is realistically meant to perform. If you want a tiny EDC flashlight that fits unobtrusively in your pocket, you should look elsewhere. If you want a mega-blast-o-rama 10,000 lumen thrower that can reach out a mile or more then you need to look elsewhere. But if you want a good all around home, car, or camp flashlight, then this is your light."

Sometimes you get what you pay for.

"I have a Surefire firearms light, which is great, but will never get used because it is permanently attached to a 9mm M & P pistol. I paid $200 for that light, probably because it has to be built extremely rugged in order to survive in a hostile combat environment. At $60 however this Model G2X pocket flashlight seems like a bargain. As a practical matter, a shining a flashlight on a 'subject of interest' can make a lot more sense than shining a light attached to a barrel of a gun. At any rate, like any Surefire product, this has a lifetime guarantee, puts out an awesome amount of light, and is built for the military and police. For what it can do, it is reasonably compact."
