"This charger is excellent. It has four separate charging circuits that monitor each battery separately. When each battery reaches full charge, that battery\'s circuit shuts off, while the others continue to charge the rest of the batteries. It supposedly will not overcharge batteries, although I have no way to verify this. Another feature is the discharge-charge, mode. You may select to discharge the batteries before the charger starts charging them. This will supposedly prevent at least some of the problems from the memory effect. I have used this mode occasionally, but again, I can’t verify that it really works. While it does have some very nice features, it is slow. I often charge high-capacity D-cells. Each battery is rated at 11,000 mAh. This charger requires about 24 hours to charge four simultaneously. I checked the rating of the AC adaptor for this charger and see that it is supplying the charger with only 1 amp (1000 mA). [It seems that the new version is rated at only 800 mA. ] At that rate, I’m surprised that it is able to charge these four batteries in just 24 hours, since each battery should require a 1 amp charge for 11 hours, assuming 100% efficiency. In spite of the time required to charge my big batteries, I am very pleased to use this charger. It’s nice to know that I am not ruining my batteries by overcharging, and that I have the means to avoid creating a memory in my batteries. It does charge AA’s much faster, although still not as fast as other chargers that aren’t as “smart”."

"I\'ve had one of these chugging away at my desk for over six years, charging several different brands of NiMH and NiCd batteries countless hundreds of times. No worrying about overcharging with the Vanson; just put your batteries in the charging bays and forget about them for as long as you want. Put simply, this is the most reliable electronic device I\'ve ever used."

"I liked this charger a lot, but one of the 4 charging ports stopped working after a few months. Which means instead of taking 24 hours to charge 4 big cells, I now need 2 days. Bummer. Judging by everyone else\'s 4-5 star reviews, it looks like I just got a rare defective one. Everything else I ever bought on this site is awesome, frankly."
