Easy to Master
It is important to become familiar with this style of navigation tool, prior to use. To operate the lensatic compass, first you must be able to take a compass bearing. To do this, simply open the navigation tool so that the cover is at a 90° angle and the lens bracket is at 30° to the case. Raise the compass to eye level and line up the sight wire with an object in the distance. Read the course bearing in both degrees and in mils. Once this step is complete, it is now time to set a course. First, open the lensatic compass entirely. Next, place the tool on a level map with the bearing directly under the index line. Finally, hold the compass in place while you rotate the bezel until the luminous indicator is over the north arrow. The final step is to follow your course. Again, it is important to practice and to be familiar with this or any navigation tool, prior to your adventure.
