Occasionally, we get calls about malfunctioning lights and find that certain, easily avoidable problems happen over and over again. That's why we've put together this list of trouble shooting methods that will help you diagnose any issues that may come up.

First things first, make sure you've got fresh batteries in your light and consult your user manual to make sure they're installed properly. Also make sure the battery compartment is clear of any silica packets the manufacturer may have included. Everything should have a good, snug fit, and nothing should feel like it needs to be forced into place.

If everything is in properly and your light still won't turn on, check your battery contacts. These are the points where the positive and negative ends of the batteries make contact with the light. Check to make sure these points are clean; if not, use some rubbing alcohol or a pencil eraser to remove any build-up. This is also a good time to make sure everything is good and tight. If anything components are moving around on their own you can use some needle nose pliers to tighten them up.

If your light still won't turn on, focus your attention on the switch. If the light utilizes a tail switch, like may lights do, remove the tail cap and find something conductive like a key or a paperclip. With the tail switch removed but the batteries still correctly installed, make contact between the conductive object, the end of the battery, and the edge of the light. If the light turns on now, you know the circuit is good, but the switch is failing to complete it. If you cannot get the light turned on without the switch, it could be a faulty LED module.

If you feel you have isolated the problem to the switch or LED, it will be a matter of replacing the faulty part and may well be covered in the manufacturer's warranty.
